Training workers in hazardous substance safety is a legal duty set out in regulation 9 of the Health and Safety at Work (General Risk and Workplace Management) Regulations 2016 and per regulation 4.5 of Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017.

Workers who are tasked with the operation or management of an Industrial Refrigeration Plant must have an in-depth understanding of Refrigeration fundamentals, system components, the engineered ‘safety critical’ systems & legislated requirements that maintain control. Furthermore, they must also grasp the unique chemical properties which affect the behaviours of Anhydrous Ammonia when uncontrolled or during maintenance that trigger best practice prevention & preparedness strategies.

Upon successful completion of this assessment, you will have proven your knowledge of the core Ammonia safety principles to prevent serious Ammonia leaks and know what actions to take in the unlikely event of an emergency.

NZQA Unit standard 30127 Demonstrate knowledge of anhydrous Ammonia and safe practices for its use as a refrigerant. Unit Level :3 | Credits: 6 |Version:2.

You must answer all questions correctly to be accredited with the unit standard.

You have 12 months to complete the course and 90 mins to complete the assessment and are allowed to cross-reference a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) separate sheet (supplied via pdf) the safety guide to Ammonia Refrigeration in New Zealand and an Ammonia Pressure Temperature Chart.

You will have two attempts to complete the assessment. Should your 2nd attempt be unsuccessful, you may be required to re-enrol in this unit. The cut-out score for the NZQA assessment is >80% with all assignments completed before verbal assessments can take place.
